Salzburg, Austria....home of THE SOUND OF MUSIC!

.

Der Salzburger Hof

Sleeping Beauties

Breakfast at the hotel

Mirabell Gardens
('Do Re Me' from 'The Sound of Music' was filmed here)

The Von Trapp children danced around this very fountain!
The girls were in awe!

Do you notice some extra random people in our picture?
These Indian women were so taken by the red heads and our little blondies that they posed with our kids while their husbands took pictures. It was hilarious!! This went on for about 15 minutes.

This lady came and just plopped down right next to Ash.
Apparently she's been trying (unsuccessfully) for the same hair color.
She's going to take this picture back to her hair dresser and say, "THIS is the color I wanted!!"

So pretty they almost don't seem real.

The tunnel Fraulein Maria and the Von Trapp children ran down while singing.

Old lady with fuchsia colored hair.

Our handsome navigator! He could always be found with a map in his hand.

Ash lighting a candle in a catholic cathedral. She had to pay .60 Euro.

Snack break

Loved how everyone rode bikes with big baskets to carry their stuff in.

No words for this one.

View of Salzburg

Chastity belt anyone?!?
Can you say OUCH??

Medieval Potty.

More gorgeous views of Salzburg.

Chocolate covered pretzels. Yum.

The abbey in 'Sound of Music'.
Former nuns are buried in these graves.

Back to Mirabell Gardens

The carpet in our hotel.
They showed 'Sound of Music' on one channel 24/7
The kids have now seen it 1,237 times.

Sunday - Church in Salzburg
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
Sprechen Sie Deutsch?

The gazebo where Rolf and Lizel sang "Sixteen Going on Seventeen".
Yes, the kids did a full re-enactment, with R*
very reluctantly giving Ash a pretend
kiss and her squealing "weeeeee" just like Lizel did in the movie.

Lunch in Salzburg.

This is how Austria landscapes its round-a-bouts. Flowers everywhere.

Hi Laura,

So, I don't really know you, but my mom, Claudia, sent me on over to your blog. I served my mission in Salzburg, so these pictures were really fun to see. Silly, but one of my favorites was the one of you with your family in (or near) the parking lot of the church in Salzburg. That picture brought back more memories (because I completely recognized the view) than most the others. What a beautiful place. Thanks for posting and letting me walk down memory lane.
